31-03-2009: Interview to our CEO, Joan Massó
Tomás Andújar, reporter from Diario de Mallorca, introduced GridSystems and our CEO (Joan Massó) to the readers in our hometown on its issue dated 29/03/2009. Massó explained in basic terms grid technology and its evolution from high-performance computing processes in academic experiments to the benefits it can bring today in real production business environments, as well as the latest tendency to not owning the hardware or software needed but renting it from services running on a computing cloud.
Massó described some of the GridSystems’ client profiles and research projects, while emphasizing the importance of the financial support from institutions when investigating the viability of new markets or perfecting a cutting-edge technology through European cooperative research projects and Spanish Cenit projects. Having been the first in Europe to create a grid middleware company and one of the first Spanish companies involved in European research projects has been a huge challenge. And even though the situation has improved, he still advocates for more support from local institutions: more R&D initiatives need to be funded and more SMEs involved to diversify the economy —and in this time of crisis, this is a crucial matter.
