Finance |
Financial
markets have suffered a tremendous change in the last
decade. The continuous emergence of new complex financial
products, the growth in the business activity in this
area, and the increased regulatory scrutiny have forced
financial institutions to face new challenges. In this
new market scenario, there is an enormous increase in
the volume of the complex trades with its corresponding
increase in data volume and its associated processes,
and there is an equivalent increase in the amount of people
involved in these more complex activities. In order to
profit and enlarge the business opportunity arising from
this new situation, financial institutions are forced
to re-think their operational structure. Also as a consequence
of this market and to prevent failures in the financial
system, regulators are imposing new conditions to financial
institutions. These new regulations entail business challenges
in the areas of capital reservation, operational costs,
and improvements on the monitoring and reporting of business
activities.
The new environment requires that financial institutions
support new complex computational processes, integrate
and analyze larger amounts of data (without any loss in
the level of service), and warrant an efficient cost model,
an optimal leverage of all IT-investments, and the capacity
to react instantaneously to market changes. |

Santander Central Hispano bank
(SCH) adopted GridSystems technology to create a
robust and reliable corporate IT infrastructure for
risk analysis. They are using an internally developed
application to perform the analysis. |

SCH runs Monte
Carlo simulations to give a statistical valuation
and Value at Risk to their portfolios. Together with
our partners and
Indizen, GridSystems designed a solution that connected
the bank's risk application to the corporate Grid
platform. The pilot was up and running in two days,
and it has been in production for the last two years.
The use of Grid technology brought about a considerable
reduction in computational time, it removed dead
time between database requests, and it created a
very flexible and scalable solution with a very efficient
cost model for future growth and improvements. In
addition to the functionalities of GridSystems technology,
the bank found the easiness of implementation and
administration to be an important added asset. |
